Sarees are rich in sentimental value, often passed down through generations in the family during special occasions or milestones. Mothers and grandmothers alike have imparted knowledge, memories, and traditions in the form of this six-yard piece of fabric.
With the new-age population shifting to more modern, comfort-based clothing, sarees are seeing a lack of use in most households. There has been a decline in adherence to these customs. The challenge that remains, however, is the most efficient repurpose of an age-old, generational piece of fabric.
The Solution
We, at Fab Point, constantly strive toward bridging this gap between traditional textiles and modern affliction. Our aim is to narrate the stories of age-old sarees without altering the authenticity and fundamental design of the sarees. And we do this by understanding the history behind the sarees and the specific requirements of our clients.
Repurposing an old piece of fabric can seem cumbersome to a few. The fact of the matter, nonetheless, is that sarees make the ideal textile pieces given the vast range of possible garments that they can be mended into. The appeal does not end there. Transforming a pre-loved saree into a contemporary garment not only extends its lifespan but also imbues it with the new significance of the tradition that was passed on.
Our process mostly involves us having regular conversations with the client to be aware of the sentiments involving the garment. Our inspiration builds from these sentiments and the emotions the client attaches to the fabric. Our masterful designers then take it upon themselves to design this story into apparel that exhibits modernity and complements the client’s personality. The fabric then sees a new light in the form of a contemporary outfit that holds within it years of history.
