A gorgeous saree is meant to be worn, loved, and passed down generations and not just stashed in a closet. Taking an old saree and giving it a makeover is the best thing you can do for it. The best part about revamping a saree is that you can create it into something absolutely new and unique. You can give these beautiful pieces of art as gifts.
New lease on the life of Saree
Upcycling may have been coined in the 1990s, but it is deeply rooted and has been an integral part of Indian culture for centuries.
Most Indians grew up witnessing their grandmothers, and mothers repurpose old Saris into new items, outfits, children’s festive clothing, baby swaddles, cushion covers, and even curtains. Generally, the people here are adept at minimizing waste and reusing old Saris, which is both environment-friendly and pocket-friendly.
This is my story…
Putting all that aside, this is my story: a beautiful saree reincarnated into something even more captivating than before.
It all started in the ’90s when Roopali’s mother-in-law set her eyes on me for the first time. I was elated to feel appreciated, loved, and chosen to be part of the most meaningful celebration in Roopali’s life, her wedding. No, I was not Roopali’s bridal saree, but I was worn by her mother-in-law on the wedding day.
Sadly, after that, I ended up in the back of her closet, all nicely folded away as a souvenir of that day.
On a fateful day 20 years later, I found my way back. Though I was a bit out of style, my appearance was still gorgeous, although it needed a makeover to match the modern look.
Fab Point team did a tremendous job giving me a contemporary makeover that blended art with revitalization. It was an amazing experience getting hand-printed with a beautiful lotus motif all over. It was an all-natural process, so I had nothing to worry about. I feel like I’m in a new world now, with a lotus blooming all over me. A touch of bling never looks amiss… to accentuate my beauty, even more, I was adorned with handcrafted tassels.
I have never felt more beautiful, honored, and humbled to be a part of something so special.
On behalf of all the pre-loved sarees, I would like to ask that you give them a second chance. There’s no reason why you shouldn’t do it.
